About The Designer

Hauwa is the CEO/Creative Director at AFRIK ABAYA. This unique and exclusive label is the result of an old dream of hers. The label was launched late 2013 to satisfy the yearnings of the modern woman for outfits with style that are infused with modern Afrocentric touch. Her long term goal is to build a modesty fashion business enterprise with a global presence. She is an advocate for women and youth empowerment and is working to empower them through her FASHION FOR DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE (FODI). For this initiative Hauwa won the Mandela Washington Fellowship Programme. A programme initiated by former US President Barack Obama for young African Leaders in Business and Enterpreneurship, Public Management and Civic Leadership. Hauwa was selected under the Business and Enterpreneurship track and was priviledged to meet Obama during the Presidential summit in Washington DC in August 3rd 2016.
